Who Controls the Weather?
I am doing a study on who controls the weather. I would appreciate any help on this topic.
Thank you so much for writing. I’m sure that scientifically there are many different variables that control the weather, but we are going to look at the Biblical truths to see who controls the weather. I’m sure that we would all be real quick to answer that God controls the weather until we hear about an earthquake, tornado or hurricane that destroys homes and lives. Then we want to question whether or not God would allow this to happen. Well let’s look at the scriptures.
Rain
- It did not rain until God caused it to rain. (Genesis 2:5And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
See All...) - God caused it to rain the first time. (Genesis 7:4For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
See All...) - God caused it to rain grievous hail in Egypt (Exodus 9:18Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now.
See All...) - When Moses spread his hands unto the LORD, the rain stopped (Exodus 9:33And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.
See All...) - The Lord promised to give rain (Leviticus 26:4Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
See All..., Deuteronomy 11:14That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
See All...) - The Lord had power to shut up the heaven that there be no rain (Deuteronomy 11:17And then the LORD's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
See All..., 1 Kings 17:1And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
See All...) - The Lord is responsible for sending rain (1 Kings 17:14For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.
See All...; 2 Chronicles 6:27Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
See All...; Job 5:10Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
See All...; Job 28:23-26 [23] God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. [24] For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; [25] To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. Thunder
- The Lord sent thunder in Egypt (Exodus 9:23And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
See All...) - Pharaoh asked Moses to “Intreat the LORD” for the thunderings to stop (Exodus 9:28Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.

See All...)
Please do not think that I am saying every time there is a flood or hail or a drought that it is directly linked to the judgment of God, I am just giving some uses of these things from scripture. This is just a start but I hope it helps.
