This chapter tells of the temptation of Eve by the serpent, the sin of Adam and Eve in eating the forbidden fruit, their shame and separation from God, and God’s act of sending them out of the Garden of Eden.  This chapter deals doctrinally with shat is known as the Fall of Man.

What Does It Say?

1. The serpent, as a representation of Satan, was more ____________ than any beast of the field.
2. After Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, their eyes were opened, they knew that they were __________, and they sewed _______ _________ together to make aprons.
3. God judges the woman for her sin by telling her, “in ____________ thou shalt bring forth children; and thy ___________ shall be to thy husband.”
4. In judgment for his sin, God tells the man, “In the sweat of thy _______shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ___________.”
5. In place of their handmade aprons, God made coats of _________ for Adam and Eve to wear.

What Does It Mean?

1. After their sin, Adam and Eve heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.  Why does the Bible put so much emphasis on God’s voice?  What does this passage teach us about man fellowshipping with God?
2. Verse 15 is a classic prophecy of the coming of Jesus Christ.  He is the seed of the woman (see Galatians 4:4But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
   See All...).  Who then would be the seed of the serpent [remember that the serpent is a representation of the devil]?  When will the woman’s seed bruise the head of the serpent?  To what does the bruising of the heel of the woman’s seed refer?
3. Read verses 22-24. After Adam sinned, God determines that he can no longer eat of the tree of life?  How would you describe the tree of life?  Why would God not want Adam to eat of it after he had sinned?  What was used to guard the tree?

What Does It Mean to Me?

1. In verse 6, Eve is tempted when she “saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise.”  Notice the three different temptations.  They have been compared to the three mentioned in 1John 2:16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
   See All...—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.  Match them up for yourself.  Which matches which?  What does this verse tell us about how we are tempted to sin?  Take each point and give modern day temptations that use that particular way to draw us into sin.
2. God asked Adam what had happened to make him hide from God.  He said, “The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat” (v.12).  He asked the woman and she said, “The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat” (v.13).  Everyone blames someone else.  How is this like us today? Give examples. Read Adam’s excuse carefully.  Who is he really blaming?
