What Is Fellowship?

What Is Fellowship? - Leviticus 6:2

INTRODUCTION

The modern description of fellowship is much weaker than its original intent. The earlier usage of fellowship was a designation of partnership. The word fellow was used to signify a coworker in Exodus 2:13 and every alternative ending used in scripture designates something that people did together. Therefore, it is of necessity that we realize that fellowship is not merely the act of two people or a group of people coming together in the name of fun; but it is the act of two people or a group of people uniting to accomplish a task. Fellowship suggests a foundational unity of purpose and motive (see Amos 3:3). This is why, as we will learn, it is so important that we have the proper fellowship.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children)  Christian fellowship is working together with others who love the Lord to get something done that He wants done. Some examples are a work day at church, visiting the sick, making cards, delivering a meal, telling others about the Lord, praying, etc. Children can do these things with other believers.
  • With what kind of people do you have fellowship? What are their motives in service? What goals do you have in common? What does your fellowship say about your spiritual condition?
  • What are some reasons that our fellowship is important? What are some things we ought to consider when yoking up with other people in fellowship?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to help you see the importance of godly fellowship.
  • Ask the Lord to teach you the true meaning of fellowship.
