Thou Savest Me from Violence

Thou Savest Me from Violence

2 Samuel 22:3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

INTRODUCTORY THOUGHTS

As violence escalates, the dependence of the saints upon the Lord for safety becomes increasingly apparent. David serves as a wonderful demonstration of this truth. Seemingly, he constantly found himself threatened by violent men. Shortly after the Lord’s deliverance from the hands of Saul, David wrote a song in which he praised the Lord for saving him from violence (2 Samuel 22:3). Not only was safety from violence the subject of David’s songs, but it was also the theme of his prayers (Psalm 140:1-4). David understood the inevitable presence of violence but also understood that his safety was of the Lord.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

(For children):Pharaoh said the children of Israel could leave Egypt, but then he changed his mind (Exodus 14:5-10). God saved His people in a miraculous way (Exodus 14:13-16, 21-28). Moses sang a song of deliverance (Exodus 15:1-13).

(For everyone):What are some examples from the life of David where God saved him from violence? How can you learn from these examples? How can this give you increased confidence in God’s protection?

(For everyone):How many times has God protected you from violence? Is it possible that there are times when God kept you safe when you did not even know that you were in the path of violence?

PRAYER THOUGHTS

Thank the Lord for keeping you safe from violence.

Ask God to continue to protect you from violence.
