The Steward’s Account - Romans 14:12

INTRODUCTION

Each believer will stand before the Lord Jesus Christ to give an account for his stewardship while on this earth. Perhaps none understood this better than the apostle Paul. He was the apostle of the Gentiles (Romans 11:13) and had a special calling as a steward "of the mysteries of God" (1 Corinthians 4:1). He spoke often about the fact that the gospel had been put in his trust (1 Thessalonians 2:4; 1 Timothy 1:11; Titus 1:3). The apostle Paul feared what would happen if he failed to fulfill his stewardship (1 Corinthians 9:16-17) because he knew a time of accounting was to follow. Though Paul’s calling was special, the fact that he would give an account was not.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) God sees and examines all that we do (Psalm 11:4; Psalm 33:13-15; Jeremiah 32:19). We will give an account to Him (Matthew 12:36; 2 Corinthians 5:10). The Bible warns us to be good stewards (Luke 12:42-43; 1 John 2:28).
  • How are your responsibilities different from Paul’s? How are some of your responsibilities similar to those of the apostle Paul? How are you fulfilling your responsibilities?
  • What do you know about the time when you will give an account to the Lord? How should this knowledge cause you to be more faithful in your stewardship?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask God to constantly remind you of the account to be given.
  • Thank God for the privilege of serving Him.
