The Steward's Account - Romans 14:12
See All...
INTRODUCTION
Each believer will stand before the Lord Jesus Christ to give an account for his stewardship while on this earth. Perhaps none understood this better than the apostle Paul. He was the apostle of the Gentiles (Romans 11:13For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
See All...) and had a special calling as a steward "of the mysteries of God" (1 Corinthians 4:1Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
See All...). He spoke often about the fact that the gospel had been put in his trust (1 Thessalonians 2:4But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
See All...; 1 Timothy 1:11According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
See All...; Titus 1:3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
See All...). The apostle Paul feared what would happen if he failed to fulfill his stewardship (1 Corinthians 9:16-17 [16] For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
[17] For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.
See All...) because he knew a time of accounting was to follow. Though Paul’s calling was special, the fact that he would give an account was not.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) God sees and examines all that we do (Psalm 11:4The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
See All...; Psalm 33:13-15 [13] The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. [14] From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. [15] He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
See All...; Jeremiah 32:19Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
See All...). We will give an account to Him (Matthew 12:36But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
See All...; 2 Corinthians 5:10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
See All...). The Bible warns us to be good stewards (Luke 12:42-43 [42] And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? [43] Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
See All...; 1 John 2:28And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
See All...). - How are your responsibilities different from Paul’s? How are some of your responsibilities similar to those of the apostle Paul? How are you fulfilling your responsibilities?
- What do you know about the time when you will give an account to the Lord? How should this knowledge cause you to be more faithful in your stewardship?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask God to constantly remind you of the account to be given.
- Thank God for the privilege of serving Him.
