The Blessings of Trust

The Blessings of Trust - Psalm 2:12

INTRODUCTION

Those who trust in worldly safety, uncertain riches, vanity, other people, or even themselves, most often find themselves disappointed when their source of trust fails. Those that put their trust in the Lord find the outcome to be quite different. According to Psalm 2:12, the people who trust in the Lord are blessed. In Psalm 5:11, the Bible says that these people will "rejoice" and "ever shout for joy." In Psalm 13, David said his heart would rejoice in God’s salvation (Psalm 13:5). In Psalm 28, he said that he was helped because of his trust in God (Psalm 28:7). In Psalm 32:10, believers trusting in the Lord are assured mercy. In Proverbs 16:20, even happiness is ascribed to trusting God.

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS

  • (For smaller children) Joseph was sold into slavery, and ended up in prison. Through all this, he trusted in God and God blessed him (Psalm 31:19). Joseph became second in command to the king and saved his family from starvation. Joseph was blessed (Psalm 34:8).
  • What are some of the blessings you have received from trusting the Lord? How is this different from the disappointments you have experienced when the world failed you?
  • How do you feel when you cease from trusting the Lord? How do you feel when you are trusting the Lord in a time of testing? Which feeling is more enjoyable?

PRAYER NEEDS

  • Ask the Lord to teach you the blessings of trusting Him.
  • Ask God to build your faith in His ability.

HYMN

Blessed Assurance
