Scripture Passage:
Romans 1:14-16 Attached audio files:
Introduction: We come into contact with people who are lost and on their way to hell every day. Yet, we do nothing to reach them. Why do we not tell them? We do not lead others to Christ because we do not have the heart of the apostle Paul.
- I AM DEBTOR (Romans 1:14I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.
See All...) - We Fail Because We are Ungrateful (1 Timothy 1:12-16 [12] And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
[13] Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
[14] And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
[15] This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
[16] Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
See All...) - We Owe a Debt to Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14-15 [14] For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
[15] And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
See All...) - We Owe a Debt to Others (Romans 13:8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
See All...; 1 Corinthians 15:34Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.
See All...) - To the Greeks – the civilized
- To the barbarians – the uncivilized
- To the wise – the educated
- To the unwise – the ignorant
- To all men (1 Corinthians 9:19-22 [19] For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
[20] And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
[21] To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
[22] To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
See All...) - I AM READY (Romans 1:15So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.
See All...) - We Fail Because We are Unprepared
- We Must be Spiritually Ready [Ready refers to a readiness to act; nothing between you and the deed except the opportunity to do something]
- We Must be Consciously Ready [Ready refers to a readiness of mind]
- We Must be Mentally Ready; ready to give an answer to every man (1 Peter 3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
See All...) - Ready to preach
- Ready to preach the gospel
- Ready to preach to you also
- I AM NOT ASHAMED (Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
See All...) - We Fail Because We are Ashamed (Romans 10:11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
See All...) - We Must Know the Gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 [1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
See All...) - We Must Believe in the Power of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 1:18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
See All...) - To everyone that believes (John 1:10-12 [10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
[11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
[12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
See All...) - To the Jew first
- Also to the Greek
- We Must Proclaim the Gospel of Christ (Romans 10:12-15 [12] For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
[13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
[14] How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
[15] And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
See All...) - WHAT CAN WE DO?
- We Can Provide so that Others May Go – this is the easiest of all, but we must not stop here
- We Can Pray for the Lost – generally and specifically
- We Can Publish the Word – through tracts, letters, etc.
- We Can Prepare Ourselves to Witness – by growing spiritually and learning how to witness and answer the questions people have
- We Can Proclaim the Gospel – by speaking to others about their condition and need
Conclusion: So send I you (John 20:21Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.
See All...) to be fishers of men (Matthew 4:18-20 [18] And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
[19] And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
[20] And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
