Scripture Passage:
2Corinthians 2:10-11 Attached audio files:
INTRODUCTION: The devices of the devil are those ways in which he works in our lives in order to lead us away from the will of God and into sin. They are his M.O. (that is, his modus operandi or mode of operation). We should be familiar with his devices and with the countermoves we can make when he attacks us.
- THE DEVICES OF THE DEVIL
- He Blinds the Minds of the Lost (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 [3] But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
[4] In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
See All...) - He Comes as an Angel of Light (2 Corinthians 11:13-14 [13] For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
[14] And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
See All...) - He Deceives the World with his Lies (Revelation 12:9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
See All...; John 8:44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
See All...) - As he did with Eve in the garden (Genesis 3:1-6 [1] Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
[2] And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
[3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
[4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
[5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
[6] And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
See All...) - So he does with believers today (2 Corinthians 11:3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
See All...) - He Turns our Attention Away From Himself (Ephesians 6:10-12 [10] Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
[11] Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
[12] For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
See All...; 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 [3] For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: [4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
See All...) - He Accuses the Brethren to Turn us Against Them (Revelation 12:10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
See All...) - As he did with Job (Job 1:9-11 [9] Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
[10] Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
[11] But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
See All...; 2:4-5 [4] Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith. [5] Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:
See All...) - So he does with believers today (2 Corinthains 2:10-11 [10] Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.
[11] For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.
See All...) - By Casting Dart When our Faith is Low (Ephesians 6:16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
See All...) - By Attacking in Weak Places at Weak Times (1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
See All...) - DEALING WITH HIS DEVICES
- With Knowledge (2 Corinthians 2:11Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
See All...) - With Preparation (Ephesians 6:11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
See All...) - With Watchfulness (1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
See All...) - With Resistance (James 4:7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
See All...; Ephesians 4:27Neither give place to the devil.
See All...) - With Faith (Ephesians 6:16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
See All...) - With the Spirit (Matthew 4:1Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
See All...; Galatians 5:16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
See All...) - In the power of a spiritual life (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 [3] For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
[4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
[5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
See All...) - By calling on the Lord to defend you (Jude 1:9Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
See All...; 1 John 4:4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
See All...) - With Scripture (Matthew 4:3-4 [3] And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
[4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
See All...)
CONCLUSION: Can you see how Satan has worked on you in the past? Are you learning from your mistakes so that you can be a better soldier for Christ in the future? Satan is more powerful than we are but we have One greater than him in us. Will you look to him for help?
Final Instructions:
- Ask God to reveal Satan’s devices against you
- Ask God to guard you in your weak areas
- Fight back when you are attacked
- Trust the Lord to win the battle
- Get back up when you are beaten
