INTRODUCTION

Many have erroneously assumed that the disciples readily accepted the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection. When Simon Peter first heard the Lord teach on the subject, he immediately took the Lord and rebuked Him. In turn, the Lord Jesus rebuked Peter, going so far as to call him Satan. Peter rebuked the Lord because the Lord’s teaching did not line up with Peter’s plans. He had no authority for rebuking the Lord and should have submitted himself to the Lord’s teaching. Some things have changed, but some have not. Even today, believers rebuke the Lord in their responses to His working in their lives. They fail to realize their duty is to submit to the Lord.

• (For smaller children) Because the disciples were in a storm and were afraid, they asked the Lord if He cared. They should have known better (Mark 4:37-40 [37] And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. [39] And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
