Offended by the Name of Jesus

According to a notice received from the Christian Law Association today, the latest attack in America on Christianity is against using the name of Jesus when praying in public. "In the past two months, two states have banned private citizens from praying in Jesus' name in the state legislatures, and other government units are sure to follow. Unbelievably, prayers to other gods, such as to 'Allah,' have not been challenged!"

In another news story, U.S. District Judge Joseph McKinley issued a restraining order to prevent Russell County High School in Russell Springs, Kentucky, from allowing a student say a prayer during their graduation service. However, as the principal made his opening remarks, about 200 of the students began reciting the Lord's Prayer while the audience responded in thunderous applause and a standing ovation. Later, senior Megan Chapman was repeatedly cheered as she told her fellow classmates to trust in God as they went through life.

This world hates God's word and the precious name of Jesus. We may soon be called upon to suffer for that name. May the Lord give us grace with the apostles as our example to rejoice when we are "counted worthy to suffer shame for his name" (Acts 5:41).
