How Shall We Sing?
See All...
INTRODUCTION
In a day where singing is more of a performance than worship, many have lost the concept of biblical singing. Singing was never meant to be something that was done by the few and witnessed by the multitudes. All of God’s people ought to sing. But, then rises the question, "How shall we sing?" According to 1 Chronicles 13:8And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
See All... God’s people ought to worship the Lord in song "with all their might." In agreement with that passage, the Bible suggests that God’s people should be singing aloud (Nehemiah 12:42And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang loud, with Jezrahiah their overseer.
See All...; Psalm 51:14Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
See All...). This is further confirmed when the Bible likens singing to a breaking forth (Isaiah 14:7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.
See All...). This breaking forth should come from an overflowing heart (Ephesians 5:19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
See All...).
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) A noise is a sound that is loud. Psalm 66:1Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
See All... says to make a "joyful noise unto God." Psalm 66:2Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
See All... tells us that noise is singing. Psalm 81:1Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
See All... tells us the same thing. God deserves our best singing from the heart. - How much effort do you put into singing unto the Lord? Do you sing from the heart? Do you sing with all the volume you can give?
- Do you prefer being entertained by song or participating in worship of the Lord? Why do churches drop congregational singing? What does that say about the heart condition of most believers?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you sing with all your might.
- Ask the Lord to help you sing from the heart.
