Consider Thyself Lest Thou Be Tempted
See All...
INTRODUCTION
It is easy to see the problems in the lives of others. Oftentimes, believers see these problems and immediately rush to rebuke or admonish those in error without first considering their own lives. According to Galatians 6:1Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
See All..., those overtaken in a fault should not be admonished until the restorer has first considered himself lest he also be tempted. A similar principle exists in 1 Corinthians 10:12Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
See All... where the Bible says, "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall." No believer should be easily deceived by his own condition, but must be willing to call his standing into question. Those who have fallen should serve as a warning to each believer.
DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
- (For smaller children) A child of God can still do wrong and often does according to 1 John 1:8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
See All.... When we confess, we are forgiven (1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
See All...) and like king David will be able to help others (Psalm 38:18For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
See All...; Psalm 51:13Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
See All...). - What should we learn when others fall prey to sin? How should it help us to see our own vulnerability? What steps should we take to insure that we do not fall as well?
- How do you presently see your condition before the Lord? Upon what do you base your analysis? Is it possible that you are deceived by your own heart?
PRAYER NEEDS
- Ask the Lord to help you take an honest look at your condition.
- Ask the Lord to give you wisdom in helping others.
